The establishment of the Champion Speed Shop by Jim McLennan in 1957 set in motion a story of speed and victory that continues to this day. The Champion Speed Shop Special originated as a twin-engine car that ruled the drag strips of Northern California. Later incarnations of the Special adopted a single blown small block Chevrolet as the engine of choice and nitromethane as fuel.
The Champion Speed Shop Special has passed from father to son Bob McLennan, evolving along the way, and has once again returned to the quarter mile. While other teams have come and gone, the bonds of family, friendship, victory, and history keep the Champion tradition alive. The Champion Speed Shop is proud to carry this tradition of velocity and innovation into the future. Stay tuned for an ongoing chronicle of the Champion Speed Shop.
